Over 1.1 Million Register on ‘Postal Vote BD’ App for 13th National Election
More than 1.11 million voters have registered through the ‘Postal Vote BD’ app to cast their ballots in Bangladesh’s 13th Jatiya Sangsad election, according to data available on the Election Commission (EC) website.
As of 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 31, a total of 1,118,344 registrations had been recorded. Of these, 466,017 voters registered from within Bangladesh, while the remaining registrations came from voters residing abroad. Gender-wise data show 975,249 male and 143,093 female registrants.
The Election Commission will send ballot papers to the registered voters’ respective addresses within the stipulated timeframe, officials said.
This marks the first time the EC has introduced an IT-supported postal ballot system. Under this initiative, expatriate Bangladeshis, individuals in legal custody, and officials assigned election duties will be eligible to vote through postal ballots, provided they register via the app.
Registration for the postal voting system began on November 19 and will continue until January 5, 2026. The original deadline was set for December 31, but the EC announced an extension on Tuesday afternoon (December 30) during a press briefing.
