Engineers Recall Khaleda Zia’s Lifelong Contribution to Engineering Education and Institutions
Leaders of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) have recalled the lifelong contributions of Begum Khaleda Zia—three-time former prime minister—to the development of engineering education, professional unity, and institutional infrastructure in the country.
They made the remarks on Tuesday evening, August 30, during a doa and milad mahfil organised by the Agricultural Engineering Division of IEB at the Engineers Institute in the capital, seeking eternal peace for the late IEB life member Begum Khaleda Zia.
Speakers said Begum Khaleda Zia worked throughout her life for the recognition of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), the infrastructural development of the Engineers Institute located at the heart of the capital, and the academic advancement of engineers. They described her as a tireless leader who worked relentlessly to keep nationalist engineers united and referred to her as a beacon of hope, aspiration, and progress for the engineering community.
The doa mahfil was moderated by Engineer Md Belal Siddiquee Sajib, Secretary of the Agricultural Engineering Division. Among those present were Engineer A N H Akhtar Hossain, Chief Adviser of the Association of Engineers, Bangladesh (AEB).
Also in attendance were IEB Vice Presidents Engineer Khan Manjur Morshed, Engineer Niaz Uddin Bhuiyan, and Engineer A T M Tanbir-ul Hasan (Tamal); Dhaka Centre Chairman Engineer Md Helal Uddin Talukder; Chairman of the IEB Agricultural Engineering Division Engineer Golam Mawla; Vice Chairman Engineer Mohammad Sarwar Mawla; and members including Engineer Abul Khair Md Mazharul Islam Kanak, along with other leaders of IEB and the Agricultural Engineering Division.
During the programme, speakers prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and remembered Begum Khaleda Zia’s long political career, her role in democratic movements, and her significant contributions to state governance with deep respect. The event concluded with special prayers and munajat, along with expressions of heartfelt condolences to her bereaved family.
