With the rise of information technology, its misuse has also grown, leading to increasing instances of technology-facilitated harassment. People from various walks of life in Bangladesh are falling victim to online harassment, with women being disproportionately affected. A study revealed that over 78% of women in Bangladesh have experienced gender-based violence (GBV) enabled by technology.

In response to this alarming trend, a training workshop titled “Preventing Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence” was held on February 18 at the Barishal BDS Auditorium. The event was organized by the Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) in collaboration with Speed Trust.

The workshop commenced with a welcome speech by AHM Shamsul Islam Dipu, Mission Head of Speed Trust. The training was conducted by AHM Bazlur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of BNNRC, and Hiren Pandit, Program Coordinator at BNNRC.

Participants were educated on the impacts of technology-facilitated gender-based violence and engaged in discussions on how to raise awareness to combat such abuse. The workshop emphasized the collective responsibility of the government, professional organizations, youth groups, technology companies, media, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), and individuals to actively work towards preventing technology-driven gender-based violence.
