Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) has been accredited by the World Federation for Interventional Stroke Treatment (WIST) as a training center for establishing Endovascular Stroke Treatment (EVT) and Carotid Artery Stenting (CAS).

The information was conveyed in an email sent on 13 March 2026 by Professor Iris Q. Grunwald, Director of the Image Guided Therapy Research Facility (IGTRF) at the University of Dundee, to the Vice-Chancellor of BMU. The recognition has been jointly awarded by WIST and the IGTRF of the University of Dundee.

The accreditation was granted based on a visit to BMU’s Super Specialized Hospital cath lab in November 2025 by Professor Iris Q. Grunwald and Dr. Paul Guyler. The University of Dundee will arrange a 9-day training program in September 2026 for six participants from BMU. The entire accreditation process is being coordinated by Professor Amin Islam of Queen Mary University of London.
