In the holy month of Ramadan, the rate of charitable giving and Zakat contributions increases significantly compared to other times of the year, as people seek spiritual rewards. In response to this reality, mobile financial service platforms Nagad and Nagad Islamic are facilitating the payment of Zakat and humanitarian donations through various charitable organisations.

On Tuesday, 10 March, the fintech company announced that customers can send their Zakat and donation funds to around 50 organisations every day by using the Nagad app or by dialing the USSD code (*167#). Additionally, through the apps or websites of Nagad and Nagad Islamic, users can easily calculate the exact amount of Zakat payable by entering details of their annual income, investments, gold holdings, and liabilities.

Smartphone users can access the service by selecting the “Donation” option in the app and sending contributions to listed organisations. Notable among them are As-Sunnah Foundation, Anjuman Mufidul Islam, Al Markazul Islami, Center for Zakat Management, and SAJIDA Foundation, among several others.

Commenting on the initiative, Professor Dr. H M Shahidul Islam Barakati, Chairman of the Shariah Supervisory Committee of Nagad Islamic, said that among financial acts of worship, the payment of Zakat is one of the obligatory duties in Islam. He noted that paying Zakat during the month of Ramadan is considered the most virtuous. Through Nagad and Nagad Islamic, donors have a significant opportunity to stand beside impoverished people by sending funds to institutions that operate with transparency. He added that this digital platform provides a reliable channel for individuals who wish to donate but often cannot find the right opportunity to deliver their contributions to the appropriate recipients.

Beyond financial transactions, Nagad Islamic has also gained popularity among users due to the inclusion of various features that support Islamic lifestyle practices. During Ramadan, the app enables payments for Hajj and Umrah, instalment payments for Islamic life insurance, and provides access to fasting and prayer schedules. Users can also read the Holy Quran with Bangla translation and access Hadith through the platform.
