ChatGPT App Hits $3 Billion in User Spending
ChatGPT’s mobile app has set a new global record in consumer spending. According to data from app analytics firm Appfigures, users have spent a total of $3 billion on the app since its launch in May 2023 across iOS and Android platforms. Notably, the bulk of this spending has occurred in the current year. The report was published by TechCrunch.
In 2025 alone, global users are estimated to have spent around $2.48 billion on the ChatGPT mobile app—an increase of 408 percent compared to the previous year. In 2024, user spending stood at $487 million, while in its first year the app generated only $42.9 million, highlighting an exceptionally rapid growth trajectory in a short period.
Appfigures noted that ChatGPT reached the $3 billion revenue milestone in just 31 months, whereas top apps like TikTok took approximately 58 months to achieve the same benchmark. The pace also surpasses that of major streaming services such as Disney+ and HBO Max.
At present, ChatGPT’s primary revenue source is its monthly subscription model. However, analysts believe growth could accelerate further in the future with the addition of developer services, advertising, and new app store–based revenue streams.
