Professor Nazrul Rheumatology Foundation and Research (PNRFR) Trust has awarded scholarships to underprivileged yet meritorious students and provided financial aid to multiple patients suffering from incurable diseases. Additionally, the organization, which primarily focuses on arthritis patients, hosted an Iftar gathering attended by its members, scholarship recipients, aid beneficiaries, and medical professionals.

The event took place on Friday, March 14, at Anwer Khan Modern Hospital in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. It was presided over by Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Chairman of PNRFR Trust and former Chair of the Rheumatology Department at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). Before the Iftar, a special prayer was offered for the well-being of the nation.

A Humanitarian Initiative for Social Welfare

The organizers emphasized that PNRFR Trust is a non-political, non-communal, non-profit, and service-oriented organization, where doctors and patients work together in unison.

Speaking at the event, Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam stated, “Established with the objective of human welfare, this trust has been striving to serve society alongside providing medical assistance since its inception. In addition to offering treatment support to arthritis patients, we also provide one-time medical assistance to individuals with serious illnesses and educational scholarships to poor yet talented students. Furthermore, we have initiated ambulance services in northern regions, rehabilitation programs for flood victims, wheelchair distribution for paralytic patients, and restoration of religious establishments. We plan to expand these social activities in the future.”

Scholarships and Financial Assistance

During the event, 21 outstanding students from secondary, higher secondary, madrasa, and university levels were awarded scholarships. Additionally, a cancer patient received financial assistance of BDT 50,000, while a mosque in Natore was granted BDT 200,000 for construction. A low-income family, who recently welcomed triplets, was provided with BDT 25,000 in aid.

According to PNRFR Trust Chairman Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, all financial assistance provided at the event was entirely funded by the organization’s Executive Member and Scholarship Committee Convener, S. M. Aminur Rahman Sabbir. He expressed his belief that, “If more affluent individuals come forward in this way, it will be possible to undertake more social initiatives, ultimately benefiting people in distress.”
