Huawei Unveils New Tri-Fold Mate XT2 Smartphone
Chinese technology giant Huawei has introduced a new surprise to maintain its influence in the global foldable smartphone market. The company has officially unveiled its latest tri-fold handset, the Mate XT2. Featuring a built-in privacy display designed to protect users’ privacy, it is the world’s first three-panel foldable smartphone with integrated privacy-display technology. Huawei has confirmed that the phone will officially go on sale from September 12.
Design and Advanced Display Technology
Compared with the previous version launched in 2024, the new Mate XT2 features a specially designed hinge mechanism that allows the display to fold inward. When folded, the phone offers a 6.5-inch display, which expands into a massive 10.2-inch 3K-resolution screen when fully unfolded. The device runs on Huawei’s proprietary HarmonyOS operating system.
Powerful Processor and Impressive Cameras
Huawei has brought a significant performance upgrade to the device. The Mate XT2 is powered by the latest Kirin 9050 Pro processor.
According to the company, the new chipset is capable of delivering performance approximately 42 percent faster than the previous Mate XT model. For high-quality photography, the phone comes with a powerful multi-camera setup. On the rear, it features a 50-megapixel main camera, a 40-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 50-megapixel periscope camera with 3.5x optical zoom.
In addition, an 8-megapixel front camera is placed on the inner display for video calls and selfies.
Variants and Pricing
The starting variant of this premium smartphone, packed with the latest technology, is priced at 19,999 yuan, equivalent to approximately $2,980. All variants come with 16GB of RAM.
However, the version featuring 1TB of storage and a dedicated privacy display will cost 24,999 yuan, or approximately $3,725.
Huawei has also introduced a special 2TB “Collector’s Edition”, priced at 29,999 yuan, or approximately $4,470.
Due to U.S. sanctions, there is currently no possibility of the tri-fold phone being launched in the U.S. market.
