The High Court Division has directed the Administrator of the E-commerce Association of Bangladesh (E-CAB) to hold the association's executive election within three months by reconstituting a new Election Board and Election Appeal Board . The order mandates strict adherence to section 18(2)(b) of the Trade Organization Act, 2022 for the upcoming 2025-2027 tenure election .
A High Court Bench comprising Mr. Justice Md. Habibul Gani and Mr. Justice Syed Mohammed Tazrul Hossain passed the final judgment disposing of Writ Petition No. 11600 of 2025 . The petition was filed by Md. Anowar Sadat, owner of Master Engineering Technology and an E-CAB member, challenging earlier ministry orders regarding the election schedule .
Following consensus from lawyers representing both the petitioner and the Ministry of Commerce (Respondent No. 1), the court disposed of the pending Rule with direct instructions to the Deputy Secretary of the Central E-Commerce Cell and E-CAB Administrator (Respondent No. 3) . The binding decision establishes a legal framework to restore elected governance within Bangladesh's premier e-commerce trade body .
A certified copy of the order issued by the High Court Division on September 2 reached 'dgibanglatech.news' on September 7. Until then, general members had been anxious about the suspended election. Expressing satisfaction with the verdict, petitioner Md. Anwar Sadat stated that e-CAB's operations are being hampered due to the absence of elected representatives; therefore, holding an election is essential in the interest of the members.
