Teaser Tactics: Bangladesh Government Launches 2026 Election Campaign
The government of Bangladesh has officially begun its campaign for the 2026 National Parliamentary Elections, releasing the first teaser on social media. The 47-second video, which went viral almost immediately, reminds viewers of the previous administration’s failures and urges citizens to “keep the country’s key in their own hands.”
The teaser opens with a widely criticized statement by former Foreign Minister A. K. Abdul Momen of the erstwhile Awami League government. The clip highlights allegations of the previous administration’s collusion with India and interference in Bangladesh’s internal affairs.
A press release issued on Sunday, 2 November, by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing confirmed the launch, stating, “The campaign for the 2026 national elections has begun. In the first teaser, everyone is invited to participate in the country’s most important election in history,” as announced by Captain (Retd.) Dr. Khan Subael Bin Rafique, coordinator of the investigation into the BDR killings.
The release further emphasized, “In February 2026, we will all go to vote in a festive environment. Through this election, the people will determine ownership of the country.”
The teaser initially displays the words, ‘Source of Awami Power’, followed by the controversial clip of former Foreign Minister A. K. Abdul Momen stating, “I went to India and said that (the fallen fascist ruler) Sheikh Hasina must be kept in power. For that, I requested the Government of India to do whatever necessary to keep Sheikh Hasina in power.”
Following this, the video shows the national flag fluttering at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building. Captain (Retd.) Dr. Khan Subael Bin Rafique appears on screen urging citizens to leave past chapters behind and focus on what he terms “the most important election in Bangladesh’s history.” He adds, “Through this election, you must understand the ownership of your country.”
Against the backdrop of the National Parliament, Subael further states, “Election 2026, the key to the country is in your hands. You determine your vote. Decide what kind of Bangladesh you want.”
Comments under the video show wide public engagement, with many expressing agreement, while a few dissenting opinions have also emerged.
