Social media giant Meta Platforms has unveiled its first consumer-oriented smart glasses featuring a built-in display. On Wednesday, at the company’s annual Meta Connect conference in Menlo Park, Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg showcased the “Meta Ray-Ban Display” glasses along with a new wristband controller, according to Reuters.

The glasses feature a small digital display on the right lens that can show notifications and handle basic tasks. Priced at $799, the device will be available on the market starting September 30. It comes with a wristband capable of converting hand gestures into commands, allowing users to reply to texts or calls seamlessly.

Zuckerberg described the glasses as an ideal medium for achieving personal “superintelligence,” stating that they would provide the benefits of artificial intelligence while preserving the user’s natural sense of awareness.

In addition, Meta introduced the new “Oakley Vanguard” glasses, designed specifically for athletes, with a price tag of $499. These connect to fitness platforms such as Garmin and Strava to deliver real-time training data.

Analysts noted that while initial sales of the glasses may be limited, the launch represents a significant step toward Meta’s planned “Orion” glasses, scheduled for release in 2027.
