BUET Students Stage ‘Long March to Dhaka’ After Shahbagh Blockade
Failing to secure any assurance regarding their three-point demands, students of engineering universities vacated the Shahbagh intersection on Tuesday night after blocking it for five hours, announcing instead a program titled “Long March to Dhaka.”
The declaration was made after 8:00 pm on August 26, Tuesday, by M. Waliullah, President of the Engineers’ Rights Movement.
He stated, “To eliminate the discrimination that has persisted for 40 years, tomorrow engineers from across the country will gather in Dhaka and assemble at Shahbagh at 10:00 in the morning.”
Following this announcement, the demonstrators left the Shahbagh area. Earlier in the afternoon, students of BUET had taken out a procession and blocked the Shahbagh intersection, chanting slogans throughout the day in support of their demands.
Sakibul Haque Lipu, General Secretary of the Engineers’ Rights Movement, said, “Students of all engineering and science and technology universities across the country have been called upon to join this movement.”
