BASIS Gets Interim Oversight Amid Organizational Void
With the executive committee dissolved and the appointed administrator stepping down alongside the supporting committee, the country’s most dynamic ICT trade body—Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS)—has entered a phase of interim leadership.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Ministry of Commerce directed that the Director General of the Trade Organization Division will temporarily oversee BASIS. This position is currently held on an additional charge basis by Joint Secretary Mohammad Rehan Uddin.
This directive comes as a relief to 35 staff members of the BASIS Secretariat, who had been in limbo regarding their salaries and bonuses. Their appeal, submitted on May 19, was followed by a report published on DigiBanglaTech.news, which helped expedite the resolution.
The interim appointment was made following a petition in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh regarding BASIS’ administrative leadership. The Ministry’s Trade Organization Division has now formally entrusted its Director General with the responsibility of overseeing BASIS operations until further notice.
