Foodpanda Offers Free Rider Insurance

Foodpanda is providing free round-the-clock accident insurance to its delivery riders in Bangladesh. The company says it is the first such initiative for food delivery riders in the country. A rider needs to complete at least one delivery in a week to receive coverage for the entire week.

Foodpanda Bangladesh recently signed an agreement with digital insurance platform BimaFy to provide the service. Foodpanda Co-founders and Managing Directors Ambareen Reza and Zubayer BA Siddique attended the signing ceremony at the company’s Bangladesh headquarters. Officials from both organisations were also present.

Under the insurance scheme, a rider’s death or permanent disability due to an accident will qualify for financial support of up to Tk 100,000. The same amount will apply in cases involving loss of sight in both eyes or loss of multiple limbs.

Riders may receive up to Tk 50,000 for permanent partial loss or disability. This includes loss of sight in one eye or loss of one hand or one leg.

Foodpanda Bangladesh Head of Logistics Mukitur Rahman Khan said riders keep the service running every day. He said their safety and wellbeing are therefore the company’s top priority.

He said the initiative aims to help riders work without anxiety. It also aims to make them feel safer while travelling on the roads.

The insurance initiative is part of Foodpanda’s rider welfare programme, PandaHearts. The programme focuses on five areas: rider safety, wellbeing, personal development, social engagement and welfare.

Foodpanda is also offering riders access to healthcare at lower costs. Riders can buy mobile data packages at special rates. They can also receive instalment facilities when purchasing e-bikes.

Together, these initiatives are designed to reduce accident-related financial risks. They also support riders’ healthcare, connectivity and mobility needs.
