Grameenphone Academy, Grameenphone’s free online learning platform for young people, has reached a milestone of 400,000 registrations. Over the past eight months, 40,000 young people from different parts of Bangladesh have participated in various artificial intelligence (AI) courses offered through the platform. The participation reflects the growing demand for digital and AI skills in a rapidly changing job market.
The milestone comes at a time when AI and other emerging technologies are transforming how people learn, work and build their careers. At the same time, digital skills are becoming increasingly important for employment and workplace productivity. Against this backdrop, Grameenphone Academy is expanding opportunities for young people to develop practical skills to prepare for an AI-driven economy.
The AI programme at Grameenphone Academy includes topics such as prompt engineering, AI agents, creative intelligence, workflow automation, AI-assisted portfolio development, no-code app development, AI-driven user experience (UX) and machine learning.
So far, 50,000 learners have successfully completed different courses offered by Grameenphone Academy and earned certificates. Beyond classroom-based learning, the platform is also helping learners apply their newly acquired skills in real-life situations and explore new opportunities.
Dhaka University student Md Aman Ullah Aman, from Patiya, said his experience with Grameenphone Academy improved his communication and leadership skills while also helping him become financially independent and explore new career opportunities.
“I never imagined that I would become this confident. Grameenphone Academy helped me become financially independent. Now, while studying chartered accountancy at Deloitte Bangladesh, I am also sharing the knowledge I have gained with more than 300 young people in my community,” he said.
Farhana Islam, Head of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) at Grameenphone, said around 2.2 million people enter Bangladesh’s employment market every year, while young people account for 78.9 percent of the country’s unemployed population. At the same time, rapid technological transformation is bringing major changes to the skills required in the workplace.
“Ensuring timely and accessible learning opportunities for young people is therefore crucial to help them adapt to the changing digital economy,” she said.
She added, “The milestone of 400,000 registrations at Grameenphone Academy and the strong participation of young people in our AI courses demonstrate their eagerness to learn and develop themselves in this era of transformation. Through Grameenphone Academy, we want to turn this enthusiasm for learning into skills that can create new and meaningful opportunities for them in the future.”
Grameenphone Academy is creating accessible opportunities for young people to develop digital, professional and emerging technology skills, with particular emphasis on AI and capabilities relevant to the future job market. Grameenphone aims to make young people more employable, create new income opportunities and ensure their more effective and active participation in Bangladesh’s digital economy.
