The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at North South University (NSU) and Beximco Pharmaceuticals PLC are expanding their partnership to strengthen research, innovation and industry-oriented workforce development in Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical sector.

The partnership aims to provide students with opportunities to conduct research in a real industrial environment while connecting academic research with the practical needs of the pharmaceutical industry.

The two institutions signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) last year. Under the agreement, selected MPharm students of NSU receive financial support to complete their research and thesis projects, along with access to Beximco Pharma’s modern research facilities. The students are conducting research on areas aligned with the needs of the pharmaceutical industry.

On Thursday, two MPharm students formally submitted their thesis projects at Beximco Pharma’s factory in Tongi. NSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury and Beximco Pharmaceuticals Chief Operating Officer (COO) Rabbur Reza attended the programme.

The event highlighted the importance of strengthening research and technological cooperation between universities and industry. Participants said initiatives of this kind can contribute to developing a skilled future workforce by providing students with research opportunities and practical experience in industrial settings.

A 10-member delegation from North South University, led by Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, also visited Beximco Pharma’s Tongi factory. The delegation observed the facility’s modern production systems, quality-control processes and various manufacturing facilities.

Access to Beximco Pharma’s research facilities is giving NSU students practical exposure to industrial processes and modern pharmaceutical manufacturing. At the same time, it is creating opportunities to connect their research outcomes with the requirements of Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical industry.

The two institutions said they would continue such initiatives to promote research and innovation while developing skilled professionals for the country’s pharmaceutical sector. Beximco Pharmaceuticals said it is working to contribute to the advancement of Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical industry by creating opportunities for young researchers and strengthening collaboration between academia and industry.
