Final Fantasy VII Revelation Unveiled as Epic Conclusion to Remake Trilogy
The long-awaited final chapter of the remake trilogy of the globally acclaimed role-playing game (RPG) Final Fantasy VII has finally been officially unveiled. Although the title’s absence from Sony’s recent State of Play presentation sparked speculation among fans, developer Square Enix lifted the curtain on the project during the Friday Night Showcase of the Summer Game Fest 2026 gaming event.
The concluding installment of the trilogy has been titled Final Fantasy VII Revelation. The game is scheduled for a simultaneous worldwide release in spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox platforms, and PC.
The newly released trailer opens with a brief recap of the original 1997 game, hinting that the remake trilogy will continue its reimagined interpretation of the classic storyline. One of the trailer’s standout moments features the iconic airship Highwind, showcasing seamless exploration of the game’s vast overworld. Players can travel across the map aboard the airship and parachute directly into battle without encountering loading screens, highlighting the game's technical advancements.
Cid and Vincent Join the Front Lines
For the first time in the remake trilogy, fan-favorite characters Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine are shown participating as fully playable members of the main battle party.
Particular attention has been drawn to Vincent’s signature “Limit Break Transformation,” which generated significant excitement among fans. As in the previous installments—Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth—players will be able to switch between characters dynamically during combat.
The trailer also depicts Vincent shooting environmental objects during gameplay. However, it remains unclear whether this mechanic will be available throughout the game or restricted to specific chapters.
New “Fits” Customization System
A completely new equipment and customization feature called “Fits” has been introduced. Through this system, players can unlock additional combat abilities and boosters while also customizing the appearance and outfits of their characters.
Gaming analysts believe Square Enix may expand this feature through downloadable content (DLC), potentially creating an additional revenue stream through cosmetic and gameplay-related customization options.
A Landmark 30th Anniversary Release
The planned 2027 launch carries special significance for Square Enix. The original Final Fantasy VII debuted on the original PlayStation console in 1997, making 2027 the franchise’s 30th anniversary year.
Rather than simply remastering the classic title, Square Enix has substantially reimagined the story and redesigned the combat system for modern audiences. Following the release of the latest trailer, anticipation among RPG enthusiasts worldwide has reached new heights as they await the conclusion of one of gaming’s most celebrated trilogies.
