Evaly CEO Mohammad Rassel Hospitalised After Falling Ill in Court Custody
valy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohammad Rassel was taken to Dhaka’s National Medical Institute Hospital after suddenly falling ill following his court appearance. He was admitted to the hospital at around 5:45 pm on Tuesday, January 20, and was later referred from the emergency department for an ECG examination.
Earlier in the day, Rassel and his wife, Evaly Chairman Shamima Nasrin, were produced before Dhaka Joint Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court-7 and Special Tribunal-13. Following the hearing, the presiding judge, Minaz Uddin, ordered both of them to be sent to jail for the execution of their sentences.
In compliance with the court order, Shamima Nasrin was sent to prison, while Rassel was taken to the court lock-up. He reportedly fell ill there and was subsequently shifted to the hospital.
It may be recalled that Rassel and Shamima Nasrin were arrested late Monday night by the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) from the Dhanmondi area. They were later produced before the court under police escort.
Previously, on September 16, 2021, the duo had been arrested from the Mohammadpur area of the capital on charges of fraud and embezzlement. Shamima Nasrin was released on bail in April 2022, while Mohammad Rassel secured bail in December of the same year.
