ByteDance Plans $14.3bn AI Chip Investment in 2026
Chinese technology giant ByteDance is planning to spend nearly 100 billion yuan, or about $14.29 billion, on artificial intelligence–based chips in 2026, the South China Morning Post has reported. According to a Reuters report, the planned expenditure would mark a significant increase compared to 2025, when the company is estimated to have spent around 85 billion yuan on AI chips from Nvidia.
The report said that a large portion of the proposed spending will depend on whether US chipmaker Nvidia receives approval to sell its H200 graphics processing units (GPUs) in the Chinese market.
Although uncertainty persists over the supply of advanced chips due to US export control policies, analysts believe ByteDance could move ahead with large-scale purchases if regulatory approval is granted.
Reuters noted that it has not been able to independently verify the information. However, as global competition in the artificial intelligence sector continues to intensify, analysts expect such large-scale investments by major technology companies to increase further in the coming years.
