The nationwide elections for the 2027-2028 term of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB)—the country's largest and most historic professional body of engineers—are set to take place simultaneously on Thursday, November 12, 2026. The electoral momentum has generated enthusiasm across the country's technology and engineering sectors. According to the schedule published by the Central Election Committee (CEC), final voter lists and valid candidate rosters have been published, leading into the final phase of field campaigning and logistical preparations.

Sources reported that the Election Commission is utilizing integrated IT databases and real-time coordination to oversee poll operations across domestic and overseas centers. Relevant authorities stated that a record number of engineers will participate to decide the leadership driving national infrastructure and technology initiatives.

IEB Election Commission data reveals that over 70,000 engineers are registered on the IEB roll, with approximately 30% in the Fellow category and 50% in the Member category. Regular fee-paying voters included on the final rolls will cast their votes without interruption from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on November 12 across headquarters, regional centers, sub-centers, and overseas chapters. The apex contest centers around the Central Executive Committee, particularly the President's seat, where 7 candidates feature on the preliminary candidate list: Engr. Md. Abdur Rauf, Engr. Khan Monjur Morshed, Engr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Talukder (PEng.), Engr. Syed Mahfuz Ahmad (PEng.), Prof. Dr. Engr. Md. Rezaul Karim (Reza, PEng.), Prof. Dr. Engr. Mohammad Ali, and Prof. Dr. Engr. Md. Alongside the central committee, intensive campaigning is underway across IEB's 7 primary Engineering Divisions and 2 Special Chapters. In the Civil Engineering Division (CED), Prof. Dr. Engr. Md. Rezaul Karim (Reza, PEng.) and Engr. Md. Nurul Islam are contesting for Chairman among 17 total posts, while Engr. Md. Helalur Rahman Bhuiyan and Engr. Mohammad Zakir Hossain (PEng.) compete for Vice-Chairman. Similarly, candidate panels are actively contesting 17 and 12 positions respectively across Mechanical (MED), Electrical (EED), Computer (CoED), and Chemical, Agricultural, and Textile Engineering Divisions. In the Women Engineering Chapter (WEC), Dr. Engr. Hosne Ara Begum and Engr. Ishrat Jahan (Jasmine) face off for Chairman, with Engr. Romana Khanam and Engr. Farhana Chowdhury running for Vice-Chairman. Meanwhile, young IT and infrastructure engineers are actively contesting 9 posts in the Young Engineering Chapter (YEC).

Regional centers are experiencing heightened electoral engagement, particularly for the 27 Central Council Member positions in the Dhaka Center, featuring candidates like Engr. A. H. M. Abdul Hadi and Engr. Md. Abdur Rauf. CEC Chairman Engr. Md. Selim Bhuiyan (PEng.) confirmed that processing of postal ballots and dispatching of final election materials to all voting centers will conclude by November 10. The engineering community across the nation awaits the election outcomes that will shape the technical and organizational leadership of IEB for the next two years.
