Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Aminur Rashid has stated that agriculture will be the main driving force of the economy.
He made this remark while addressing a post-Eid greeting exchange program with officials and employees of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Food at the Agriculture Ministry’s conference room on Tuesday (March 24).
Among others present at the event were the Prime Minister’s Political Adviser and Adviser to the Ministry of Agriculture (with the status of a minister) Nazrul Islam Khan, Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Rafiqul E Mohamed, and Secretary of the Ministry of Food Md. Firoz Sarker.
The Agriculture Minister said that Bangladesh’s geography and environment are more favorable for agriculture than those of many other countries. He noted that with scientific farming methods, it is possible to produce more food than the country’s demand.
He further stated that the majority of the country’s population depends on agriculture and that it forms the foundation of the rural economy. As part of the government’s priority programs, farmer cards will be distributed among farmers. He also mentioned that a canal excavation program has already been launched across the country. The government has undertaken an integrated action plan to make agriculture the main driving force of the economy, with comprehensive reforms being implemented in the sector.
Addressing officials and employees at all levels under the Ministries of Agriculture and Food and their affiliated departments and agencies, the minister said they are committed to ensuring balanced nutrition for the population and leaving behind a better country for future generations. He emphasized that a better nation can be achieved if everyone performs their duties with honesty and dedication.
The minister also noted that food security will be a major challenge in the future, urging all concerned in the agriculture and food sectors to work sincerely to combat this challenge.
At the event, the Prime Minister’s Political Adviser and Adviser to the Ministry of Agriculture Nazrul Islam Khan said that advancing the country’s agriculture sector requires not only efficiency but also integrity and dedication. He added that the government will carry out tree plantation programs nationwide and called for turning tree planting into a social movement to promote greening across the country. He emphasized that this movement should be expanded among all people to help address the impacts of climate change.
