Minister for Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare, Professor Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain, called for developing world-class physiotherapists to provide advanced healthcare services to the public. He made the remarks on Tuesday (September 08) while addressing as chief guest at a discussion organized by the Physiotherapist Association of Bangladesh (PAB) at the Abdus Salam Hall of the National Press Club, marking 'World Physiotherapy Day 2026'.

In his chief guest address, Minister Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain emphasized that adapting modern technology with expertise is crucial to elevating the country's healthcare system to international standards. "Healthcare delivery is not solely physician-centric; nurses, physiotherapists, pharmacists, technologists, and patient families play an interdependent role. Without coordinated and sincere efforts, providing true and desired care to patients remains unattainable," he stated.

Speakers at the meeting presented global health statistics, highlighting cardiovascular disease as a leading cause of mortality worldwide, claiming nearly 20.5 million lives annually—accounting for over 30 percent of global deaths. Notably, 85 percent of these deaths stem from heart attacks and strokes, with nearly 75 percent occurring in low and middle-income countries. Experts noted that structured awareness and timely intervention can prevent most stroke incidents.

Chaired by PAB President Kamruzzaman Kallol, the assembly demanded the immediate establishment of dedicated physiotherapy departments and prompt recruitment across all hospitals nationwide. BNP Assistant Family Planning Secretary Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Kabir Labu, Director of the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital Professor Dr. Md. Nuruzzaman Khan, and Member Secretary of the Society of Neurologists Bangladesh Professor Dr. Najmul Huda Biplob were present as honored guests.
