Google has released updated data showing what percentage of currently active Android devices are running the latest operating system, Android 16. According to the updated Android version distribution chart, Android 16 is now running on 7.5 percent of active Android devices worldwide. However, the data was collected up to December 1, 2025, meaning the actual share may have increased slightly since then. The information was reported by GSM Arena.

Google officially rolled out Android 16 for Pixel devices in June last year. Following that, other manufacturers gradually began pushing the update to their respective devices. Despite this, the latest version has yet to reach the top position in terms of adoption.

At present, Android 15 is the most widely used version, accounting for 19.3 percent of active devices. It is followed by Android 14 with a 17.2 percent share and Android 13 at 13.9 percent. In terms of overall usage, Android 16 currently ranks seventh, trailing behind Android 11, Android 12, and Android 10 as well.

According to Google, Android’s open-platform nature allows a large number of manufacturers and an enormous variety of devices to operate within its ecosystem. As a result, delivering new version updates to all users quickly is comparatively challenging. However, it is expected that the adoption rate of Android 16 will increase significantly in the coming months.
