BCS Board Ballot Without a Battle

While an election is technically underway, no votes will be cast for the upcoming Executive Committee (EC) of the Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS), the country’s pioneering trade association for IT entrepreneurs. For the 2025–27 term, all seven candidates running for seven available positions are now set to be elected unopposed.

However, as the withdrawal deadline for candidacies remains open until May 31, the Election Board cannot yet officially declare the candidates as winners. Barring any last-minute withdrawals, all seven candidates will be declared elected unopposed on June 1.

Following the official confirmation, nomination forms for role allocation within the committee will be distributed and submitted, culminating in an internal election on June 23 to assign specific posts. The names of the newly appointed BCS leaders for the 2025–27 term will then be formally announced.

According to sources from the BCS Election Board, one candidate was disqualified from the final list of valid nominees on Wednesday afternoon. Md. Anisur Rahman, proprietor of New Universal Computers, was the only aspirant dropped from contention.

This leaves the following seven candidates poised to join the BCS Executive Committee without opposition: Mohammad Zahirul Islam, Managing Director of Smart Technologies Ltd.; Muhammad Monirul Islam of Computer City Technologies Ltd.; Md. Nazrul Islam Hazarie of Welkin Computers; Md. Wahedul Islam Dipu of Landmark Computers; Md. Iqbal Hossain of Jazi; Abul Hasan of HM Computers; and Md. Ahsanul Islam of PG Garden.

Past trends and internal sources suggest that Mohammad Zahirul Islam is expected to be appointed as the next BCS President, while Muhammad Monirul Islam is likely to assume the role of General Secretary. The distribution of the remaining positions is yet to be determined.

The BCS Election Board is chaired by Sharif Raihan Kabir, Deputy Secretary (FTA-1, FTA Division) of the Ministry of Commerce. The two other board members are Sandeep Kumar Sarker, Deputy Secretary (OBA-1, IIT Division), and Md. Sirajul Islam, Assistant Commercial Counsellor (Deputy Registrar, FTA Division).
