AWG-37 Day 3 Advances 6G, Satellite and Spectrum Work
Draft recommendations finalised on NTN, AI, WPT and public warning systems
- Day 3 examines 6G, AI-native networks, satellite systems and NTN interoperability
- Spectrum work covers the 698–806 MHz and 6425–7125 MHz bands
- 395 delegates from 40 countries participate across 52 specialized sessions
DHAKA, September 9, 2026: The third day of the 37th Meeting of the APT Wireless Group (AWG-37) in Dhaka advanced technical work on artificial intelligence-native 6G networks, Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN), wireless power transmission and public warning systems for disaster situations.
Organized by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) at the Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden, the five-day international meeting continued on Wednesday with parallel technical sessions across four venues. The sessions reviewed draft recommendations, reports and technical documents related to next-generation wireless communications.
APT Secretary General Masanori Kondo, AWG Chairman Daejung Kim, and BTRC Chairman Maj Gen (Retd) Md Emdad Ul Bari are attending the meeting.
The event has brought together 395 delegates from 40 member countries, including 168 in-person participants and 227 virtual delegates. More than 120 international technology experts are attending in person in Dhaka. A total of 52 sessions are being conducted across the hotel’s Grand Ballroom, Lohori, Mollika and Madhobi halls.
Satellite and NTN interoperability
One of the key Day 3 tracks was the Sub-Working Group on Satellite Systems (SWG-SAT). Meeting in the Lohori hall under the leadership of the SWG-SAT Chair, the group reviewed technological developments related to NTN and terrestrial network (TN) multiple operating systems.
The session examined a draft report based on submissions from China (INP-27) and Japan (INP-37), along with liaison statements involving ASTAP, ITU-R WP 4B, WP 5D and ITU-T Study Group 13.
Inputs on demand for modern satellite applications were also compiled from Cambodia, Japan, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Amazon Singapore, Eutelsat Asia, GSOA, MEASAT, STCL and Telesat.
Spectrum coordination
The Sub-Working Group on Spectrum Arrangements and Harmonization (SWG-SA&H) placed the proposed revision of APT/AWG/REC-08 before the meeting for final approval. The recommendation concerns IMT frequency arrangements in the 698–806 MHz band.
The session was chaired by Ms. Ye Min, a representative of Huawei, China. The group also discussed frequency-range issues associated with Radio Frequency Beam Wireless Power Transmission (WPT) and agreed to support the Working Group Terrestrial on the matter.
6G and AI-native networks
The Sub-Working Group on IMT Technologies (SWG-IMT-TECH) reviewed applications of IMT-2030, or 6G, and technical characteristics of the 6425–7125 MHz frequency band.
Led by Acting Chair Yasuhiro Kato of NTT, Japan, the session also examined South Korea’s INP-47 proposal on AI-native networks. Participants discussed the scope of establishing a dedicated AI-related study group within AWG.
An earlier morning workshop on 6G also featured a dedicated session on artificial intelligence.
Wireless power transmission
The Task Group on Wireless Power Transmission (TG-WPT), led by its Co-Chairs, advanced work on recommendations covering several wireless power applications.
These included Japan’s INP-46 on RF Beam WPT, China’s INP-23 and INP-24 on NFC wireless charging, South Korea’s INP-50 on wireless charging for electric vehicles, and wireless power transmission for moving machinery.
Public warning systems
Meanwhile, the Task Group on Public Protection and Disaster Relief (TG-PPDR) met in the Madhobi hall under Chair Hyounhee KOO.
The group reviewed revisions to APT/AWG/REP-115, concerning public warning services over IMT and other networks during disasters. It also approved the draft reply liaison statement AWG-37/TMP-01 for ITU-D Study Group 1.
The Day 3 proceedings are further advancing regional technical and policy coordination across 6G, satellite systems, NTN, spectrum management, wireless power transmission and disaster communications within the Asia-Pacific wireless ecosystem.
