Priority Care and Follow-Up Support
China Opens Green Channel for Bangladeshi Eye Patients
- Patients can receive medical consultations and document reviews before travelling to China
- Priority appointments, a dedicated international desk and interpreter support will be available
- The initiative encourages training, teleconsultations and partnerships with Bangladeshi eye-care institutions
Bangladeshi patients seeking advanced eye treatment in China will have access to a coordinated service system covering pre-travel consultations, priority hospital appointments and follow-up care after returning home. Kunming Huaxia Eye Hospital has launched a dedicated “Green Channel” for Bangladeshi eye patients, described as the first specialised service of its kind in southwestern China. Patients can have their medical documents reviewed and receive consultations before travelling. The service also includes a dedicated international desk and interpreter assistance. The initiative could strengthen healthcare cooperation between Bangladesh and China through ophthalmology training, teleconsultations and institutional partnerships.
The service was formally launched on Saturday (October 24) at Kunming Huaxia Eye Hospital in Kunming, China. Shahnaz Ranu, consul general of the Bangladesh Consulate General, unveiled the Green Channel plaque. On the same day, she also inaugurated the Huaxia Ophthalmology International Forum 2026.
Ridwanur Rahman, first secretary (commercial) at the Bangladesh Consulate General, and Zhang Zhiyong, vice president of Huaxia Eye Hospital, attended the event.
According to the organisers, Bangladeshi patients will be able to obtain necessary medical consultations and have their treatment documents reviewed before travelling to China. Upon arrival at the hospital, they will receive support through a dedicated international desk and priority appointments. Interpreter services will help address language barriers. Follow-up medical services will also be available after patients return to Bangladesh.
During the inauguration, Consul General Shahnaz Ranu highlighted progress in Bangladesh’s public health sector and achievements by domestic institutions in eye care. She emphasised the importance of ensuring internationally recognised medical services for Bangladeshi patients while protecting patient safety, service transparency, fair pricing and dignity.
Ranu said the Bangladesh Consulate General’s primary expectations were to ensure quality and safe treatment for Bangladeshi patients, maintain transparency in medical costs and uphold patient dignity.
She also urged Huaxia Hospital authorities to help expand treatment opportunities for Bangladeshi patients in China while contributing to the development of Bangladesh’s domestic eye-care capacity.
She placed particular emphasis on training Bangladeshi ophthalmologists and nurses, expanding teleconsultation services and establishing partnerships with eye-care institutions in Bangladesh. These initiatives, she noted, could help strengthen the country’s ability to provide advanced eye treatment at home.
The launch of the Green Channel creates an integrated service pathway for Bangladeshi patients seeking eye treatment in China, from initial consultations to post-treatment follow-up. The initiative also highlights opportunities to expand training, technology-enabled consultations and institutional cooperation between Bangladesh and China in ophthalmology.
