Information and Broadcasting Minister Jahir Uddin Swapan has said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a vital component of Bangladesh's information, communication and digital ecosystem, stressing that the country's biggest challenge is ensuring its responsible, effective and sustainable use.

Speaking at the Global Conference on AI Leadership and Flagship Prestige Award 2026 at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka on Saturday, the minister said AI literacy is essential to harness the technology safely and effectively.

He noted that AI is already playing a significant role across information, communication and digital platforms, making it increasingly important to understand its capabilities and adopt it responsibly over the long term.

"Without adequate knowledge of Artificial Intelligence, it can become a boomerang at any time," the minister warned.

He also urged people to view AI as a partner rather than a threat, saying the technology should be embraced as a "friend" to accelerate innovation and digital transformation.

Highlighting AI's growing influence on society, Jahir Uddin Swapan said, "For a long time, humanity alone was responsible for the progress—and sometimes the decline—of civilization. From now on, however, humans are no longer alone; Artificial Intelligence will also play an important role in shaping the future of civilization."

He emphasized that developing AI-skilled human resources, increasing public awareness and ensuring responsible deployment of AI technologies will be crucial for Bangladesh's future digital development.
