Dhaka Metro Rail to Run Normally Amid Election Transport Restrictions
The Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges has imposed restrictions on all types of vehicular movement in connection with the upcoming national parliamentary election and referendum. Despite these restrictions, Dhaka’s popular Metro Rail will operate as usual, providing regular passenger service throughout the period.
To ensure smooth election-time train operations, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has canceled all staff holidays during this period.
This information was shared on Thursday, 5 February by DMTCL Director AKM Khairul Alam, who emphasized that the metro rail will run as on a normal working day, ensuring uninterrupted transportation for Dhaka’s passengers and facilitating voting. While most station gates will remain open, gates located immediately next to polling centers may be temporarily closed.
Earlier, on 2 February, the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges issued a notification imposing nationwide transport restrictions. These include:
-
Suspension of taxi cabs, pickups, microbuses, and trucks from midnight 11 February to midnight 12 February.
-
Prohibition of motorcycles from midnight 10 February to midnight 13 February for a continuous 72-hour period.
However, the restrictions may be relaxed for urgent needs and election-related activities.
