As the July 26 election date approaches, the Election fervor for the 2025-2027 term of the E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (E-CAB) has intensified. Prior to a temporary suspension of campaigning, 36 candidates—comprising two panels and independents—had already launched their election drives.

According to sources, following the lifting of the suspension and an increase in the voter list from 802 to 853, one faction moved to halt the election and petitioned the Election Board for a rescheduling. Reports indicate that eight candidates filed this petition in their own names. Conversely, over three hundred appeals supporting the timely conduct of the election have been submitted by candidates and voters alike.

In this context, on Sunday, July 13, thirteen director candidates of E-CAB gathered at the Rainy Roof Restaurant in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar area. During the meeting, most attendees expressed support for holding the election in accordance with the trade organization regulations promulgated on May 20.

Candidates present included Abdul Salam Prince, Ismail Hossain, Anwar Sadat, Rehana Khan, Mukib, GM Faruq Hossain, and Moinul Hasan, among others.

Sources from the meeting disclosed that these candidates plan to present their consolidated demands to E-CAB’s administrators, the Election Board Chairman, the DITO, and other relevant authorities, while also organizing a series of follow-up activities. On Monday afternoon, July 14, they intend to meet with the E-CAB administrator to submit a written application.

Earlier, the election for the 11-member executive committee of E-CAB’s 2025-27 tenure was scheduled for May 31. However, the Election Board temporarily suspended the election on May 14 through a formal notice. After updating the voter list, the board finalized preparations to hold the election within the stipulated timeframe.
