Users could choose features
Xbox Game Pass May Offer Custom Plans
- Subscribers may be able to select features instead of paying for fixed bundles
- Cloud gaming, multiplayer and console-focused options could become separately selectable
- Microsoft has not confirmed a launch date or final plan structure
Microsoft may be considering a major change to Xbox Game Pass that would give subscribers more control over the features they pay for. Instead of choosing only from predefined subscription tiers, users could potentially build a plan around their preferred benefits. Engadget reported the possibility on October 24, 2026, but Microsoft has not announced a final structure or rollout date.
Moving beyond fixed subscription bundles
Xbox Game Pass currently offers several subscription tiers, each combining a set of benefits such as access to a game library, online multiplayer, cloud streaming and, in some plans, access to selected new releases on launch day.
According to Engadget, a possible new model would allow subscribers to choose the features they want rather than pay for a preset bundle. For example, someone who does not use a bundled service such as Fortnite Crew could potentially remove it to lower the subscription cost.
Citing reporting from Fortune, Engadget said the proposed overhaul could let players select options such as console-focused games, cloud gaming and multiplayer access. Details about individual feature prices, the available combinations and how the system would work have not been disclosed.
Current Game Pass subscription tiers
Engadget listed the following monthly prices and benefits:
-
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate — $23: More than 500 games, selected day-one releases, Fortnite Crew, EA Play, Ubisoft+ Classics, online multiplayer and up to 15 hours of game streaming per month.
-
Xbox Game Pass Premium — $15: More than 200 games, online multiplayer and up to 10 hours of game streaming per month.
-
Xbox Game Pass Essential — $10: More than 50 games, online multiplayer and up to five hours of game streaming per month.
-
PC Game Pass — $14: More than 300 PC games, selected day-one releases and an included EA Play subscription.
These are the dollar prices cited in the report. It does not specify pricing applicable to Bangladesh.
Pricing flexibility under consideration
The report places the potential change against a period of adjustments to Game Pass pricing and features. After a price increase in 2025, Xbox announced a price reduction for Game Pass Ultimate in 2026.
Engadget also recalled an April report from Windows Central that described Xbox’s longer-term goal of letting users decide which content packages to include in their subscriptions. The newer report suggests the idea could extend to selecting individual features.
A more flexible model could allow subscribers to avoid paying for benefits they rarely use. However, whether it would make the service more affordable would depend on how Microsoft prices each option and which features remain available in each plan.
For now, the proposal remains unconfirmed in its final form. Microsoft has not provided a detailed feature list, individual prices or a launch timeline for a build-your-own Game Pass subscription.
