BYD Tops Global Automotive Innovation Rankings, Sets New Industry Benchmark
Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has achieved a historic milestone in the global automotive technology industry by being named the world’s most innovative automotive group in the Automotive Innovations Report 2026 published by the Center of Automotive Management (CAM). The achievement marks the first time a Chinese automaker has topped the global automotive innovation rankings.
According to the 22nd edition of the report, CAM evaluated more than 867 technological innovations from 36 automotive groups worldwide. The rankings were determined using the organization's proprietary M.O.B.I.L. assessment methodology, which measures technological maturity, originality, practical applicability, and overall innovation capability.
Overtakes Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz
BYD secured the top position with 157.2 innovation index points, surpassing long-time industry leaders Volkswagen Group, which scored 143.1 points, and Mercedes-Benz Group, which earned 134.2 points. The result establishes BYD as the new global leader in automotive innovation.
Most Innovative Volume Brand
In addition to leading the overall group category, BYD was also recognized as the Most Innovative Volume Brand 2026. With more than 105 innovation index points, the company outperformed established international brands such as Toyota and Renault.
Technology Driving the Success
Industry experts attribute BYD’s achievement to its advancements in:

Among the company's most influential technologies are the Blade Battery, DM-i Super Hybrid technology, and advanced ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), all of which have helped establish new benchmarks within the global electric vehicle industry.

The recognition is also viewed as an acknowledgment of BYD’s growing contribution to reducing global carbon emissions and accelerating the adoption of sustainable mobility solutions. Through continuous investment in electric and alternative-fuel vehicle technologies, the company has rapidly expanded its presence across international markets.
Growing Presence in Bangladesh
BYD has also been actively supporting the development of sustainable transportation in Bangladesh. Recently, the company delivered 90 new energy vehicles (NEVs) directly to customers through two large-scale vehicle delivery events in the country.
Industry observers believe these initiatives represent an important step toward expanding environmentally friendly transportation and accelerating the adoption of technology-driven mobility solutions in Bangladesh.
