At the 82nd session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), Bangladesh emphasized the importance of stronger regional cooperation. On 21 April in Bangkok, the Bangladesh delegation was led by Faqir Mahbub Anam, Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, and Science and Technology.
While speaking at the session, the telecom minister called for closer collaboration among regional countries to address climate change, global economic pressure, and uncertainty. He said that ensuring sustainable development requires mutual partnerships and coordinated initiatives.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s domestic progress, Faqir Mahbub Anam underscored the government’s priorities in supporting small and medium entrepreneurs, attracting investment, and fostering innovation. He also emphasized the importance of skills development for youth and women, job creation, and increased participation in the digital economy.
The minister reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to social protection, healthcare, renewable energy, and climate action. He stated that achieving inclusive development requires all countries to work together.
In the concluding part of his speech, the minister conveyed warm greetings to all participants on behalf of Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
This year’s session is being held in Bangkok from 21–24 April under the theme “Leaving no one behind: advancing a society for all ages in Asia and the Pacific.” The session was inaugurated by Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.
At the session, ESCAP Executive Secretary Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana said that progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) remains below expectations, and emphasized the need to strengthen regional cooperation, policy coordination, and data-driven decision-making.
