Digital Media Mandate: Nilphamari Press Club Elects Leaders with Shared Presidency
In the biennial election of the Nilphamari Press Club, two candidates will share the presidency after receiving an equal number of votes. Both the President and General Secretary elected in the polls are journalists from electronic media.
In the election, Hasan Rabbi Pradhan (RTV) and Monanjurul Alam Siam (Machhranga Television) received an equal number of votes for the post of President. Following a mutual decision, they will each serve as President for one year.
Meanwhile, Milladur Rahman Mamun (ATN News) has been elected as General Secretary.
Voting was held on Monday, 6 April, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Press Club auditorium.
Other elected members in various positions include: for the four Vice-President posts—Bhaban Ray Nikhil (BSS), Anwarul Alam Pradhan (Channel i), Shish Rahman (Ittefaq), and Mostafizur Rahman Sabuj (Weekly Nil Chokh); for Joint General Secretary—Nasir Uddin Shah Milon (Dinkal) and Abdur Rashid Shah (News 24); Office Secretary—MR Chowdhury Raju (Daily Sun); Finance Secretary—M Abul Hossain Shah (Banijya Pratidin); Publicity and Publication Secretary—Naeem Shah (Kaler Kantho); and Sports Secretary—Mosharraf Hossain (Khola Kagoj).
Those elected to the seven Executive Member posts are Mir Mahmudul Hasan Astaq (Prothom Alo), Kazi Mahbubul Haque Dodul (Nilkotha), Sadekur Rahman Shah Scholar (Ajker Business Bangladesh), Bappi Rahman (New Age), BM Khaja Newaz (Amar Barta), Mushfikur Rahman Soikat (Inqilab), and Ali Saddam (CN Bangla).
Out of the 21 posts in the Executive Committee, elections were held for 19 posts on Monday. The remaining two posts—Literature, Culture and Library Affairs Secretary and Information Technology and Research Affairs Secretary—were filled uncontested by Abdul Bari (Bangladesh Pratidin) and Ariful Islam (Amader Patrika), respectively.
Chief Election Commissioner Md. Shamsul Islam confirmed that out of 52 members of the Press Club, 49 cast their votes, of which 7 votes were declared invalid.
