Jamaat Ameer Apologises Over Hacked Post, Condemns Disrespect to Women
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said he sincerely apologises if any mother or sister was hurt by content posted from his hacked social media account, stating that his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle had been compromised.
“They hacked my verified X handle and later spread filthy comments about mothers from there. If any mother or sister has been hurt by those hacked posts, I sincerely apologise,” he said. “I saw a group starting protests with much noise and commotion. Those who do not know how to respect mothers are the very ones who took to the streets,” he added.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman made the remarks on Sunday, February 1, while addressing an election rally at the Shaheed Darog Ali Municipal Park ground in Sherpur.
Speaking further, the Jamaat Ameer said women are being disrespected in various places. “Those who disrespect women are no better than four-legged animals,” he said. Addressing women as “mothers,” he added, “Mothers are being humiliated in different ways. Those who are doing this are also someone’s children. Our request to them is—learn to respect your own mothers, wives, and sisters.”
He went on to say that those who cannot respect their own families will never be able to respect the country’s millions of mothers. “Those who disrespect women are inhuman. Moral degradation is increasing in society. Everyone must become aware to protect the dignity of women,” he stressed.
At the beginning of his speech, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman referred to the killing of a respected teacher. He said that in broad daylight, and in the presence of law enforcement personnel, a prominent teacher, Professor and Sribardi Upazila Secretary Maulana Rezaul Karim, was brutally beaten to death. “This can never be an answer for those who carried out the killing,” he said, adding that the same political forces had earlier eliminated more than 200 of their own people.
“What kind of politics is this, where people are murdered instead of being given security?” he questioned. He further said that Allah had created an opportunity for the country on the 5th. “By Allah, under the sky of Bangladesh, the most oppressed political party is Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. One after another, 11 top leaders were killed in cold blood through completely false cases. We do not want to see such things anymore,” he said.
The rally was presided over by Sherpur District Jamaat Ameer Maulana Hafizur Rahman. Among others present were Central Organising Secretary and Mymensingh regional coordinator Dr. Samiul Faruqi, Central Working Committee member and Bangladesh Development Party Central Finance Secretary Riyad Hossain, DUCSU GS SM Farhad, along with leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its affiliated organisations.
