Gazipur Journalist Gutted After Filming Beating Incident
A journalist named Asaduzzaman Tuhin (38) was brutally hacked to death in Gazipur after reportedly filming an assault involving local miscreants armed with native weapons. The attack occurred in front of the busy Masjid Market area at Chandna Chowrasta around 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, August 7.
According to a local tea vendor who witnessed the attack, “He was running towards my stall when five men chased him down with ramdaos, chapatis, and knives. I got scared and sat down while they kept hacking him.”
Tuhin was the Gazipur staff reporter for the national daily Protidiner Kagoj. Originally from Bhatipara village in Mymensingh’s Fulbaria thana, he lived with his family in the Chandna Chowrasta area.
Local sources said that earlier on Thursday, Tuhin went live on Facebook exposing extortion activities involving footpaths and roadside shops in the Chandna Chowrasta area. Later that evening, around 8 p.m., he posted a video on his Facebook page captioned: “Crossing the road however they want. Gazipur Chowrasta.”
Eyewitnesses reported that Tuhin was having tea at a roadside stall when a group of men suddenly surrounded him. In front of shocked bystanders, the assailants attacked him with sharp weapons, eventually slitting his throat and fleeing the scene. He died on the spot.
Basan Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Shaheen Khan confirmed, “Police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue. We are investigating the motive behind the killing.”
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Crime-North) Rabiul Hasan added, “We suspect that Tuhin was murdered because he filmed another person being beaten. We have already obtained video footage and identified the attackers. Multiple police teams are conducting raids in various areas to apprehend the suspects. Further details will be disclosed once arrests are made.”
