Palak Sent to Jail After Remand in Student Protest Murder Case

A Dhaka court has ordered the imprisonment of former State Minister for ICT, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, after the completion of his remand in connection with the murder of student protester Riaz in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
On Wednesday (March 19), Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Zakir Hossain issued the order.
Following the end of his remand period, police presented Palak before the court, seeking an order to keep him in custody. After reviewing the petition, the judge ordered his imprisonment.
Earlier, on March 12, the court had granted a three-day remand for Palak in this case.
Background of the Case
According to the case details, on August 4, Riaz participated in the anti-discrimination student movement in Dhanmondi. During the protest, he was shot and killed in an incident involving police and ruling party activists.
On September 10, Riaz's mother, Shafia Begum, filed a case at Dhanmondi Police Station, accusing those responsible for her son’s death.
