Utilizing online platforms and social media technology to clarify public statements, Member of Parliament for Cumilla-4 Hasnat Abdullah expressed regret over recent misunderstandings caused by his parliamentary speech. On Saturday, August 29, at around 1:45 PM, he published a detailed statement on his verified Facebook account addressing the confusion regarding cultural events and boat races in Brahmanbaria.

The clarification follows protests by the Qawmi Chhatra Oikya Parishad in Brahmanbaria on Friday night, August 28, following his remarks in Parliament.

In his online post, Hasnat Abdullah explained that his parliamentary speech aimed to question the Home Minister regarding law enforcement accountability, but led to an unexpected misunderstanding with the people of Brahmanbaria. He noted that media reports regarding a concert shutdown actually stemmed from students requesting a reduction in sound volume due to exams, rather than an outright cultural ban.

Acknowledging a factual mistake, he further stated online that he mistakenly mentioned Brahmanbaria instead of Sylhet while referring to a boat race cancellation. He expressed regret over the technical oversight, noting that time limits during parliamentary supplementary questions prevented him from providing full context.

Reaffirming his commitment to an inclusive society, Hasnat Abdullah emphasized that the post-July national vision embraces technological progress, science, cinema, music, and religious discourse alike. He concluded that every citizen's rights must be safeguarded within a diverse and harmonious Bangladesh.

Amid an escalating situation, tension is rising in Brahmanbaria over the program of the National Citizen Party (NCP). The NCP has called an organizational coordination meeting at the District Shilpakala Academy at 4 pm on Saturday, August 29.

However, ahead of this event, the Qawmi Student Unity Council has demanded that Member of Parliament Hasnat Abdullah retract and apologize for his remarks about Brahmanbaria made in Parliament. On Friday night, the council staged a protest in the city.

At the same time, the Qawmi Student Unity Council has announced an Islamic cultural program at the same venue at 3 pm on Saturday.
