The students of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) have suspended the ongoing agitation after discussions with the administration. The CUET administration has reconsidered the directive issued by the university authorities to stop academic activities and leave the halls of students due to the suspension of the movement.
An emergency meeting of CUET Syndicate was held on Friday in the afternoon. It was decided to close the university till May 9. However, the university authorities withdrew the decision for students to vacate the halls. Students can now stay in the halls even though the academic activities will be closed.
At the end of the meeting, the registrar of CUET (additional duties) Professor Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir said that the university family is saddened by the untimely death of two CUET students. Due to the circumstances arose from this incident, all academic classes and examinations of CUET has been announced closed till May 9.
Moreover, the decision made for the students to leave the halls has been suspended under two conditions. These conditions include- Students shall maintain overall peace and order in the campus and shall not indulge in destruction of public or private property.
