No more hassle for driving license applications. You don’t need to go to BRTA office any more to apply for driving licenses. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that this application can be made online at home. On Tuesday (November 15), he conveyed this message to reporters after holding the National Road Safety Council meeting at the BRTA building at Banani, Dhaka.
The minister said that those who will apply for driving license from tomorrow, can apply at home. Only one visit to BRTA office for examination.
In another question, he said that a loan of 4 thousand 80 crore Taka from the World Bank is being discussed for road safety.
The proposal of this project has already been prepared, he said, soon it will go to ECNEC meeting. From there we will go to implement it. We need road safety badly. Road safety is a major concern.
“Rather than banning motorcycles on the highway, we are giving more importance to how to control them. It is employment for many unemployed people in this populous country. We have already said that we will make policies”, said Obaidul Quader.
The minister said that the government emphasizes controlling three wheelers (three wheeled vehicles) and motorcycles on the highways across the country. For now, the matter will be monitored on five important roads. A policy is also being formulated for that purpose. Dhaka-Aricha, Dhaka-Mymensingh, Dhaka-Tangail, Dhaka-Sylhet and Dhaka-Chittagong highways will be monitored initially.
The meeting was attended by Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan, Road Transport Secretary ABM Amin Ullah Noori, Member of Parliament and Transport Leader Shajahan Khan, Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapos, BRTA Chairman Noor Mohammad Mazumder, BRTC Chairman Tajul Islam, Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun and additional secretary rank officials of various ministries.
