‘Bangladesh Government Cloud’ has officially been debuted. Bangladesh Data Center Company Limited (BDCCL), the only government-owned company in the country for data storage and disaster recovery services, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Dedicated Region has implemented this cloud infrastructure. Through this, the government believes that Bangladesh’s own government cloud service will ensure the digital control of government institutions along with the establishment of cloud infrastructure and data protection locally.
Prime Minister’s Private Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman inaugurated this service at Rupashi Bangla Grand Ballroom of Inter Continental Dhaka in the capital on Monday in the evening. State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak and US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter D Haas spoke on the occasion as special guests.
Oracle’s Executive Vice President and General Manager of Japan and Asia Pacific Mr. Garrett Ilg and Country Managing Director of Oracle Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Rubaba Daula were also present on the occasion.
While speaking as the chief guest, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Private Industry and Investment, Salman F. Rahman said, “Establishing the Government Sovereign Cloud of Bangladesh with Oracle has created an effective area of public-private partnership, which will enhance the capacity of government institutions to meet the needs of citizens and businesses. We hope that the use of this cloud will bring a big change in the delivery of government services, which will help in the digital future of the country. A cloud-first policy has become important to governments as a secure approach to increasing efficiency, scalability and cost savings.”
He also said, “Bangladesh’s sovereign cloud, which has been developed through Oracle OCI Dedicated Region, will serve as the main foundation for achieving this goal. It will help strengthen our digital infrastructure and cyber security capabilities for a modern economy. With the help of Oracle, we hope to build a truly smart government.
State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak said the Government Sovereign cloud will manage important systems like national security, e-governance, and health and social services including e-filing from within the borders of Bangladesh. More than 30 government agencies in Bangladesh now have access to all of Oracle’s cloud services through the OCI Dedicated Region, which will simultaneously ensure good governance, regulatory compliance and data security.
Mr. Garrett Ilg, Executive Vice President and General Manager for Japan and Asia Pacific Region, said, “Smart Bangladesh Vision 2041 builds on the launch pad created by Digital Bangladesh, where data will be the new currency and become the key to long-term digital transformation that will benefit Bangladesh. All citizens.”
He said, “Through cloud computing, as opportunities for providing innovative services are created for governments, the capacity of government employees can be increased to provide better services to citizens. OCI Dedicated Region provides a complete cloud solution within the Bangladesh Government’s own data center. It ensures a fast, efficient, secure and cost-effective platform, which will assist the Government of Bangladesh in the application modernization, acceleration of innovation and data sovereignty requirements.
In addition, the OCI dedicated region will provide BDCCL with significant speed and cost-effectiveness, which will help their users to implement new applications and online services quickly and efficiently. Oracle’s public cloud services, regular updates, cost savings and overall Service Level Agreement (SLA) benefits are available through the OCI Dedicated Region.
Designed for a single user, the Oracle OCI Dedicated Region API will enable BDCCL to keep all government data of Bangladesh confined within the country, including operations and metadata. OCI Dedicated Regions offer full management capabilities and new feature additions to Oracle’s public cloud. Oracle is the only hyperscaler capable of leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and can offer hundreds of cloud services globally through dedicated, public and hybrid cloud platforms. The government of Bangladesh is planning to manage its own data center and AI infrastructure using Oracle’s sovereign AI capabilities.

US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter D. Haas said, “BDCCL is working with Oracle to achieve the goal of building a Smart Bangladesh by 2041, which is very encouraging. If the competitive environment prevails, US companies will play a major role in Bangladesh’s digital transformation process due to their high-quality technological expertise. The US government will continue to be active in highlighting the need for smart policies and laws for a smart Bangladesh. “
The Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) under the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Government of Bangladesh has implemented the OCI Dedicated Region through BDCCL.
Oracle Dedicated Region will provide an integrated cloud experience through the Oracle Fusion Cloud application suite, which includes Oracle Fusion Cloud Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Oracle Fusion Cloud Human Capital Management (HCM), Oracle Fusion Cloud Supply Chain Management (SCM), and Oracle Advertising and Customer Experience (CX).
