The election for BASIS 2024-26 Executive Committee will be held on May 8th at the Gulashan Shooting Club meeting hall in the capital. There are 33 candidates for 11 posts from three competitive panels. Mahbub Zaman, the former president of BASIS, faces adverse questions after supporting one of these panels in the member group of WhatsApp. He is said to have been kicked out of a closed Facebook group called BASIS Members Platform where he was voicing his views. However, the Election Commission has given an explanation about this, including taking him back to the group.
According to the complaint, such an unintended incident took place on Saturday, May 4th with Mahbub Zaman, President of the organization’s 2010-12 committee in the BASIS members platform group. The present committee chairman and other directors of BASIS now had to criticize the situation to handle the circumstances. But some voters feel that those who plotted to insult Mahbub Zaman have now changed their ways.
According to the data received, Mahbub Zaman, who has contributed to the country’s IT sector entrepreneurs, wrote on the BASIS Members Platform Group that day, saying, “I have been receiving many telephone calls in the last few days where everyone wants to know ‘which side’ I took. His writings made it clear that he is very familiar and intimate with all the rival parties. But there are some who are very loved and dear ones. He even said that ‘Team Smart’ didn’t go to him, rather he went to Team Smart.
This freedom fighter and former student leader explained some of the reasons. The first reason, he said was that, most of the members of Team Smart is young – which many see as their weakness. However, the former BASIS leader thinks that this is Team Smart’s biggest strength.
“Everyone on this panel is involved in the day-to-day operations of the industry. As a result, they understand the problems better” – he mentioned this as the second reason.
Mahbub Zaman said, everyone on this panel is working in every field of cutting-edge technology. AI, IoT, data analysis, robotics are their areas of work. This senior leader of BASIS was removed from the admin of the BASIS Members Platform group after making such a post. Even his post was removed.
There are different opinions on the issue in the BASIS Members Platform Group. Later, some of the current committee of BASIS also expressed regret about the matter. Some said that insulting Mahbub Zaman was intentional. Now the expression of grief is nothing more than crocodile’s tears.
According to sources, BASIS Secretariat called Mahbub Zaman on Sunday expressing regret for the incident. However, Mahbub Zaman did not agree to make any official comment on this.
On the other hand, BASIS Election Commission has given a long explanation about the whole matter. Head of Election Management Committee TIM Nurul Kabir, members Syed Mamnoon Quader and Nazim Farhan Chowdhury said in a message written to the members that some posts on the BASIS members platform may not interfere with the smooth functioning of the election process 2024-26 so that they are not currently associated with any BASIS member organization; That is, the BASIS Secretariat was instructed to remove all non-members. As a result, BASIS former president Mr. Mahbub Zaman was dropped from the members’ platform. Because, he does not represent any company in BASIS now. Also, some members of the current Election Commission are not members of the platform and were not aware of its existence. However, after the matter was known, he was taken back as the former president.
According to Syed Mamnoon Qadir’s post, speaking to Mr. Mahbub on behalf of the Election Commission to create a participatory and equal environment for all, he regretted the unintended incident that occurred while following the administrative rules. At the same time, the Election Commission called for a participatory, transparent and fair election and the sincere participation of all in the process.
