BTRC will use the telecom monitoring system of TKC Telecom, a Canadian-based international organization, to monitor the activities of mobile operators.
A purchase agreement was signed between the two companies at the BTRC office on Monday. According to the agreement, the company has to complete the installation of the telecom monitoring system within 180 days of signing the agreement.
Md. Golam Razzak, Director, Engineering and Operations, BTRC, and Samir Talhami, CEO, TKC Telecom, signed the agreement.
Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Mustafa Jabbar was the chief guest at the signing ceremony and Secretary of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications Md. Afzal Hossain was the special guest. BTRC Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder presided over the function.
In addition, Brigadier General Md. Ehsanul Kabir, Director General of Engineering and Operations, BTRC, and Sami Talhami, CEO, TKC Telecom, spoke.
In addition to senior officials of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications and BTRC, CEOs of mobile operators were virtually present on the occasion.
It may be mentioned that the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement has approved the purchase of a telecom monitoring system at a cost of Taka 77 crore 65 lakh.
It was informed at the event that once the system is implemented, the process of collecting and reporting information from mobile operators will be automated. At the same time, it will be possible to observe all the necessary information in real-time. This will ensure regular and reliable access to BTRC’s revenue due to voice and data traffic, network usage and quality information.
This will greatly improve the BTRC’s policy-making system and make reporting to the government more efficient and faster. It will be possible to immediately verify the actual condition of the telecommunication network in urban as well as rural areas, islands, haors, coastal areas and remote areas.
Through live monitoring of the operators’ network, the quality of service of the network can be more accurately verified and the actual status of customer service can be known.
It will be possible to verify the tariffs that the operators are actually implementing and whether the tariff packages are approved by the BTRC or whether the customers are being unfairly harmed and the grievances in this regard can be settled effectively.
If the network is damaged due to a natural disaster, necessary action can be taken by monitoring it. The system will play an effective role in various policy-making decisions of the government and in improving the proper quality of various infrastructural systems and services.
