1157 out of 1464 voters in 4 categories exercised their right to vote in the Executive Council election of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), the top organization of IT businessmen for the period 2024-2026. Among the votes casted, 17 votes were cancelled. ‘One Team’ led by Russell T Ahmed has finally come out in the polls. The panel won 8 out of 11 posts and got majority.
However, Md Mostafizur Rahman Sohail, Team Smart team leader, got the maximum 405 votes in the general category. According to the order, Rashidul Hasan of Team One got 388 votes, Mir Shahrukh Islam of Team Smart got 367 votes, Mohammad Risalat Siddiqui got 357 votes, One Team Leader Russell T Ahmed got 355 votes, Md Asif Rahman got 349 votes, Iqbal Ahmed Fakhrul Hasan got 341 votes and Didarul Alam got 325 votes. The executive director was elected after voting.
Syed Abdullah Zayed of One Team also got 123 votes as an associate member; Biplab Ghosh got 128 votes from affiliate and Syed Mohammad Kamal was selected through lottery draw in international category.
On Wednesday evening, Chairman TIM Nurul Kabir presented the result of the election on the Basis Election Commission Board. Two other members of the election board Syed Mamnoor Quader and Nazim Farhan Chowdhury were present at the time.
Before announcing the results, the Board Chairman of the Election Commission said that the winners will distribute the posts among themselves on Thursday at three o’clock in the afternoon. A majority of the elected members shall elect the President, Vice President, Directors. May 11 will be the handover ceremony of the new committee.
As such, the current president Russell T. Ahmed is going to be the BASIS president again.
Earlier, the BASIS Election Management Board conducted the polling from 10 am to 5 pm at the Bangladesh Shooting Sports Federation auditorium in Gulshan of the capital.
In this year’s polls, 781 per cent votes were cast in the general category, 250 in the associate category, 118 in the affiliate category and 89 per cent in the international category. There were 33 candidates in three panels. Among them, 11 people were elected by the voters. Although elected from One Team and Team Smart, no one from Team Success could win this election. Similarly, not one of the three women candidates from the Smart and Success panel failed to crack a smile. However, Team Smart candidate Syeda Naushad Jahan Promi could have joined this panel if he got one more vote.
Now the expectation of the voters, team success will emerge as ‘one team’ on the way to smart basis.
