The University Grants Commission (UGC) has finalized the budget of 12 thousand 185 crore 33 lakh taka for the 53 public universities of the country for the next financial year 2023-24. Out of this, 19 technical universities are getting a total allocation of Tk. 1,457,520,000. The allocation has increased by Tk. 107 crore 34 lakh this year. However, this time only the allocation of Chandpur Science and Technology University has decreased by 1 crore 21 lakh taka to 7 crore 54 lakh taka.
However, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology-BUET is getting the maximum allocation of Tk. 228 crore 4 lakh. In the current year, the allocation for the university was 221 crores 64 lakhs Taka. Accordingly, the allocation of BUET has increased by 6 crore 40 lakhs.
Also, in technical education, CUET getting 85 crore 28 lakh taka, RUET 109 crore 95 lakh, KUET 112 crore 21 lakh and DUET getting allocation of taka 88 crore 62 lakh.
Accordingly, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology-KUET is the most advanced in increasing the allocation in the budget this time. The allocation of this university has increased by 12 crore 17 lakh taka. NoAkhali University of Science and Technology is next in terms of allocation growth rate. This year their allocation has increased by 1 crore 20 lakhs. Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, which ranked third in the increase, got Tk. 9 CRORE 65 lakh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology Tk. 8 crore 44 lakh, Pabna Science and Technology University Tk. 7 crore 54 lakh and Haji Danesh University of Science and Technology Tk. 7 croe 53 lakh.
Also, the allocation of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology has increased by Tk. 6 crore 15 lakh and Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology Tk. 5 crore 86 lakh.
On the other hand, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) is getting Tk. 168 crore 36 lakh after increasing Tk. 6 crore 9 lakh among science and technology universities.
Similarly Haji Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University 116 crore 28 lakh, Maulana Bhasani Science and Technology University 89 crore 94 lakh, Patuakhali Science and Technology University 99 crore 28 lakh, Noakhali Science and Technology 99 crore 28 lakh, Jashore Science and Technology University 83 crore 52 lakhs, Rangamati Science and Technology University Tk. 16 crore 57 lakh, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Science and Technology University Tk. 20 crore 84 lakh, and for the first time Sunamganj Science and Technology University Tk. 3 crores 36 lakhs and Pirojpur Science and Technology University Tk. 337 crores.
Apart from this, Bangabandhu Digital University is getting allocation of 16 crore 15 lakh, Bangladesh University of Textile 46 crore 22 lakh, Bangabandhu Maritime 46 crore 86 lakh and Bangabandhu Aviation University 39 crore 33 lakh taka. According to statistics, the allocation of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University has increased by Tk. 4 crore 6 lakh.
Also, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) received the highest allocation of 179 crore 74 lakh among the medical universities in other branches of science. At the same time, Chittagong Medical University getting 9 crore 23 lakh, Rajshahi Medical University getting 11 crore 52 lakh, Sylhet Medical University getting 3 crore 58 lakh and Sheikh Hasina Medical University is getting 5 crore 1 lakh taka. And compared to the current year, the total allocation in the next financial year has decreased, but the allocation in the research sector of Dhaka University has increased. More than 15 crores taka has been allocated by the government for the research sector this year.
