Google has removed various apps from the Play Store for not paying the charges as per the new service policy. Although they started to bring some of the apps back, within two weeks of the incident, the Competition Commission of India ordered an investigation against the American technology company. This action of the commission is based on the complaints of some companies affected by the policy of Google. The companies claim that the policy violates the competitive environment. Google claimed that the new fee would help them build the Android system and support infrastructure for the Play Store. But many established organizations benefited from that platform but did not pay the penalty. After this, Google removed more than 100 Indian apps from Playstore. Although they were warned by the government, they did not pay attention in the beginning. Later, however, some apps started returning.
In the meantime, app majors like Shaadi.com, Kuku FM filed a complaint with the Competition Commission. According to them, not only the direct apps, but the organizations associated with digital transactions and the larger customers are also in trouble as a result of this move by Google.
In the 21-page order, the commission said, Google claimed that its fee depends on the extent of the service. But it is not clear in their statement why the technology company exempted the ‘content’ based apps.
