Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Md. Tajul Islam said that agriculture is the main driving force of the economy of Bangladesh. There is no alternative other than modernization of agriculture to advance the country. Even though advanced technology has touched all levels of agriculture in the developed world, there is still a lot of room for improvement in the agricultural sector of our country, especially in farm mechanization.
He expressed his thoughts at the opening ceremony of the ’12th International Agricultural Technology Fair 2024′ at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital on Thursday, April 25. This fair will continue till April 27. Prof. Dr. Md. Manzurul Alam, a professor of Department of Agricultural Energy and Machinery of Bangladesh Agricultural University (Mymensingh) presented the key note article at the event.
The local government minister said that various programs are being implemented for the development of agriculture and fortunate farmers under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. It is essential to change the conventional agricultural technology along with farm mechanization as well as coordination of advanced technology and craftsmanship. Agriculture and industry are the two most important sectors for the country’s economy. If modern technology is used in these two sectors, the service sector will develop in the country.
Tajul Islam also said that this technology fair will enrich the agricultural sector with the participation of government organizations as well as private organizations, agricultural and agriculture related machinery manufacturers, technology expanding industries and institutions in the development of Bangladesh’s agriculture and farmers and increase its productivity and crop intensity.
Mosammat Hamida Begum, Senior Secretary of Rural Development and Cooperative Department presided over the event while the State Minister Md. Abdul Wadud; Chairman of Limra Trade Fairs and Exhibitions (Pvt.) Ltd. Kazi Charwar Uddin; Rural Development Academy Bogura, Director General (Additional Secretary) Md. Khurshid Iqbal Rezvi and others were present in the program.
