Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) and Telephone Shilpa Sangstha Ltd. (TSS) might be self-dependent and profitable state-owned by the next 5 years if they use its resources properly. To achieve this target, State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Zunaid Ahmed Palak suggested ample of guidelines to its top management like appointing some mentors, coordinators and coaches to maximize the use of existing infrastructure and increase manpower efficiency in the organizations.
On Friday, which is public holiday, he gave these suggestions while visiting and inspecting the Telephone Industry Limited (TSS) site at Auchpara, Tongi; proposed construction of 41 storied DoICT smart tower under “Establishment of Digital Connectivity (EDC)” project being implemented by Directorate of Information and Communication Technology and Telecommunication Staff College. He also planted some fruit trees at these premises.
Addressing BTCL DMD Sanjeev Kumar Ghatak, Zunaid Ahmed Palak said, We have given the competent officers here on deputation. The two-storied building, where I sat in the meeting would be a lot of cost savings if it might be 4 storeyed. Using the existing infrastructure, the administrative building is four floors, which explores the capacity of the training building. And we may increase the capacity of the dormitory from 800 to 1000 people.
The state minister also said that in order to create smart officers for the year 2041, they will need cognitive, soft and communication skills along with traditional education. For this, he gave three proposals. India, Sri Lanka and Singapore and Malaysia have established knowledge partnerships with ITU institutions. He gave a business plan where it is described how to do maximum with less money with the existing infrastructure and manpower. And the third is to prepare some world-class facilities in this 82 one place from where we can raise the invested money in the next 20 years and go further.
Also, while directing the launch of a six-month short course and a 12-month diploma course at the BTCL training center, Palak said, here they can provide training to young officers as well as students on frontier technologies such as AI, microchip designing, cyber security, machine learning, blockchain. In this, remittances can be earned through the youth.
State Minister for Telecom and ICT expressed his admiration to see BTCL’s dormitory during the visit. He said that if resources are managed and shared, the country will save a lot of money and time. TSS Managing Director Md Ashraf Hossain, BTCL DMD Md Ansar Ali, CGM Md Abul Fazal and others were present at that time.
