As a part of ‘Data Privacy Week 2024’, a special seminar was held at BASIS Auditorium in Kawran Bazar of the capital on “Ensuring Data Privacy and its Challenges amongst IT industry “. Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) and Legalized Education Bangladesh jointly conducted the seminar on Wednesday. Bangladesh Supreme Court lawyer and Legalized Education Bangladesh Managing Director Barrister Tasnuva Shelley conducted the event. BASIS secretary Hashim Ahmed delivered his welcome speech.
Director General of National Cyber Security Agency Abu Saeed Md. Kamruzzaman; Lutfar Rahman, chairman of BASIS Standing Committee on digital security; Senior Lecturer of law department of BRAC University Md. Saimum Reza Talukdar were also present as panelists in the seminar. APEC Managing Director Josh Lee Kok Thong also spoke online as a panelist.
At the seminar, the Director General of National Cyber Security Agency Abu Saeed Md. Kamruzzaman said, “The protection of personal information is now a global concern. For the first time we are very happy to observe Data Protection Week. Along with the advancement of technology, digital literacy of people is also very much needed. Covid has made us a lot smarter, especially when it comes to home offices and online meetings. However, as we increase our presence online, the privacy of our personal information decreases. So, we have to be more aware of ourselves.”
Lutfar Rahman, Chairman of BASIS Standing Committee on digital security, said, “People of our country are not aware of the privacy of their information. People disclose a lot of personal information on social media. Our organizations need to be more responsible about protecting people’s personal information. We should also check how compatible our country’s policies are with global policies. We are running a significant number of seminars and workshops as well as awareness campaigns on social media every month to raise awareness on data protection.”
In addition to BASIS, the National Security Agency, SSL Commerce and Justicia Legal Minds are partners in this ‘Data Privacy Week 2024’ which started from 21 January and will go on through 27 January 2024. A significant number of representatives of BASIS member organizations were present at the seminar.
