To celebrate the contribution of women in the BPO industry on the occasion of ‘International Women’s Day 2023’, the Central and Single Trade Organization for the BPO/Outsourcing Industry of Bangladesh organized an event titled ‘Celebrating Women’s Contribution to BPO’ on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at a conference hall in Banani. Saima Shaukat, Chairman of ‘Youth and Women Empowerment Sub-Committee’ of BACCO, gave a welcome speech on the occasion.
Professor of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering Department of Dhaka University Dr. Lafifa Jamal presented the keynote at the event. At one stage of her captivating speech, she said, “We assume that the tough subjects like science, information technology, mathematics, and engineering are beyond the mastery of girls. We therefore discourage them from studying or pursuing such subjects. As a scientist, we always have a picture of a man in our mind. This attitude of society should be changed first.”
E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) President Shomi Kaiser, Bangladesh Freelancer Development Society President Dr. Tanjiba Rahman, President of Bangladesh ICT Journalists Forum Nazneen Nahar, Senior Vice President of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) Samira Zuberi Himika, President of Women and E-Commerce Trust Nasima Akhter Nisha, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Women and Digital Achia blue, Emrajina Islam, founder and CEO of Emrajina Technologies and Zara Mahbub, CEO of Dun & Bradstreet Data and Analytics Pvt. President of Bangladesh Women and Technology Rezwana Khan moderated the panel discussion. In the discussion, many important topics such as progress of women in IT, success stories, work environment, ways to overcome various obstacles came up and a question and answer session was held for the participation of the audience.
Hon’ble Member of Parliament Tamanna Nusrat Bubli spoke as the chief guest on the occasion. She said, “I am constantly inspired by the brilliant women in IT. I sympathize with the stories of many people’s struggles and struggles. To move Bangladesh’s IT sector forward, women’s participation must be increased immediately.”
At the event, BACCO welcomed eight new member workers who had recently joined the BPO industry by presenting “Welcome Certificates”. BACCO also honored five women who have been working in the BPO industry for a long time as “Long-tenured personnel” for their exemplary contribution to the development of the BPO industry by awarding them “Certificates of Excellence”. All received certificates from the chief guest.
Success stories of various women who have built successful careers in the BPO industry were aired in the program through video messages. Also circulated was a video message sent by Nilufa Yasmin, Deputy Project Director of the ‘Her Power’ project of Pathan Information and Communication Technology Divoson.
Vice President Tanveer Ibrahim, Joint General Secretary Tanjirul Basar, Finance Secretary Md Aminul Haque, Director Fazlul Haque, Director AKM Ahmedul Islam Babu, Director Musnad E Ahmed and Chief Coordinator Md Mahtabul Haque were present as special guests on behalf of BACCO Executive Committee.
