The ‘Digital World 2022’, a showcase of the Digital Bangladesh is going to be held on December 8 for the 5th time organized by the Information and Communication Technology Division. Prime Minister’s ICT Advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy will inaugurate the ‘Digital World 2022’ at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre. Through this, the government wants to open a new horizon of attracting foreign investment from ‘Made in Bangladesh’ to an ‘Exporter of ICT products’. The details of the four-day event were presented to more than 30 ambassadors at the Sheraton Hotel in the capital on Wednesday night.
Foreign Minister Abul Kalam Abdul Momen was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He said that ‘Digital World 2022’ will be a unique opportunity to showcase the capabilities of Bangladesh in the technology sector to the world. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and ICT Advisor Sajib Wazed, Bangladesh’s youth and women’s society has become strong in digital power. Now they can do everything on their mobile phones. However, despite the global divide, we are digitally connected. We want to conquer the world with this power. Therefore, I hope that other countries will participate in the journey of Smart Bangladesh by participating in Digital World 2022. We hope this event will give us an idea of our capabilities and future opportunities in the technology sector. Our people have proved how capable they are. We had a clear target to implement Digital Bangladesh with the guidance of our Prime Minister and the advice of ICT Advisor to PM. In Bangladesh you see today, is the result of the visionary leadership of our Prime Minister. If you have a dream, we can make it happen; Not only on paper but also in reality.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak highlighted the plan to achieve the 5 billion dollar export target from the ICT sector by 2025 by organizing ‘Digital World 2022’ and said that 3 million new job resources will be created through this. In this event, school-level innovators will showcase their innovative solutions in front of the world. There will be a robotic zone, e-Gov. zone, BPO and e-commerce zone and many more events will be staged on the event. Bangladesh will be a part of smart society by developing smart trade, innovation, smart economy to form a self-reliant Bangladesh through the partnership of global partners. Apart from matchmaking, diplomatic and ministerial meetings between the businessmen of the two countries, there will have various innovative arrangements. In the ministerial meeting, solutions to the challenges and obstacles of cross-border trade will be sought through discussion.
Mentioning ‘about 2000 government services are now available in finger tips through digital medium and 80 percent of the mobile phones sold in the country are now made in the country’ the state minister also said that since 2011, we have been organizing this international event. We invite global leaders, researchers and investors to participate in this event. We want them to visit our market, see our capabilities. We want to be self-sufficient in the digital sector. We also want to work in partnership with other countries of the world.
Meanwhile, Zunaid Ahmed Palak sought the cooperation of their respective ambassadors to participate in the Digital World of Finance Ministers or ICT Ministers from different countries.
Enamul Kabir, director of Bangladesh Computer Council, welcomed everyone to the meeting. After that Sami Ahmed, Managing Director of Startup Bangladesh, highlighted various aspects of the program.
BACCO Finance Secretary Aminul Haque, BCS President Subrata Sarkar, E-Cab President Shami Kaiser and BASIS President Russell T Ahmed spoke on the occasion.
The Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Masood Bin Momen, and the Senior Secretary of the ICT Division, NM Zeaul Alam spoke in the program. Among the diplomats, Australian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Jeremy Bruer, Turkish Ambassador, Mustafa Osman Turan, Swedish Ambassador, Alexandra Berg von Linde, Korean Ambassador, Lee Jang-keun, Saudi Ambassador, Issa Bin Youssef Al-Dahilan and EU Ambassador Charles Whitley shared their views.
The theme of this year’s digital world is “Be Innovative & Smart”.
